Three sketches for a tower of Babel

mixed media, dimensions variable, 2002

These three works were the culmination of research into possible large scale architectural works. Although large (4 metres high each) they were merely sketches for a possible Tower of Babel. The story of the Tower of Babel states that God destroyed the tower and scattered the people giving them different languages in order that they would never again be able to communicate and collaborate on a new tower to reach God. The forms were a direct reference to the several ages of architecture still existing within Rotterdam
