Untitled # 117
tropical hard wood, canvas, paper, dimensions variable, 2005
The first installation created for the exhibition brought together three elements in my work, found objects, stacked wood and symbols of national identity. A sphere was constructed using salvaged wood and wooden banister railings, typical to the area. The structure was then covered in a found canvas, cut into arbitrary forms that referenced continents. The flags of the current 196 countries of the world, along with a few, yet to be fully recognised states, were planted randomly cross the five canvas continents. main image
