iimawashi: Contemporary Art from Japan

Artists Name: Hisashi Momose Title: NE Alternate Platinum to Gold Material: Gold and Platinum leaf, Nepalese & Japanese paper, canvas on panel with acrylic, perspex Size: 30cm x 30cm x 5cm 2002 Hisashi Momose has been working since 1971 on colour fields, and his work can easily be seen as anticipating the colour spectrums now so familiar to those who work with photo editing, digital painting and illustration programmes. Principally a printmaker, who also works with paint, he is in the process of developing glass panels that will enable his work to become incorporated into the exterior fabric of city architecture, protecting the colours in his work from the damage caused by ultra violet rays. What is perhaps not so easily recognised in his work is the spiritual dimension apparent in his choice of colour and material.
