Liberate yourself from National Identity - The EU (detail)

One exhibition wall contained the flags of the European Union - as of 2005. Each Flag was made from sulphur and rosin obtained from different coloured match heads. The sulphur was painted onto small rectangles of paper, observing the original proportions of each flag. The flags each had their own carrying case and were accompanied by a book of matches, designed with the Universal Flag logotype. The implication here being that a person wishing to renounce his or her national identity could use the corresponding unit of the work to facilitate this wish. The carrying case would allow the mechanism for liberation to be used at any place or time. main image
